Never ever change your money in your home country. As Blagger say’s just change enough to get you through the first day/night (depending what time you arrive) then sort your cash or travellers checks out the next day.
Also when going to get cash out either from the ATM or changing TC’s or just cash at the exchange just take what you need from your room safe/hotel lock box, go get your money then return everything to the safe. Just keeping what you need on you for the day/night. Don’t go on the piss with all your holiday money in your pocket Because if you get robbed/pick pocketed you fucked. If you get robbed for just a few thousand baht yes it’s a pisser but at least you know you can get back to your hotel and get access to the rest of your funds.
This may seem like obvious advice and I apologise if you all go “well tell us something we don’t know” but it bears repeating as I’m always reading of numptys losing all there cash and CC’s ATM cards etc all at once. Also get a good quality colour copy of you passport photo page and carry that around instead of the original and lock your passport away with your tickets etc. Thailand is not a good place to be if your skint and have no way of getting home. Just to say in 11-12 visits I’ve never had a single baht robbed from my room or pocket but why take unnecessary risks? I’m there to enjoy my holiday not sort out a new passport and emergency funds. Also take out travel insurance “just in case”
But most of all have a good trip and welcome to the addiction that is LOS _________________ Time is a great teacher, unfortunately it kills all it’s pupils |

I usually find it best to take travellers cheques with me. I took cash that i got changed in england years ago when the country was not in the state it is now with this recession an that bull**** but now i only get enough money changed over here to get me from bkk airport to patts the rest i get changed in patt using various different travel excahnges (always looking for the one with the best rates for travellers cheques) So i would say to anyone lookin to travel to thailand in the near future to take them. Even i will be using them again for my next trip later next year
Hope this helps _________________ Don't hate the player......Hate the game |
