With great interest, but not without worries, I read the news about whats happening in Bangkok nowadays.
Not that Iīm interested in Thai politics... I must confess that my interest is a selfish attitude of mine, because I want to be sure that Thailand remains being my No.1 place to go for holidays.
So, Iīm not better as any other poster, who asks for barsīopening hours regarding to the rumors of new laws in Thailand.
Itīs also not my right to critisize anything that happens in Bangkok or elsewhere in the kingdom, because Iīm not Thai, but just a visitor who is far away from Thailand right now.

Well, this forum section is called "Questions About What Is Happening In Thailand"
But Iīm not here to ask any question.
I just wanted to say, that I wish HM The King a long life, because without him the present situation in the kingdom could escalate into something similar to the terrible situation in Georgia or Sri Lanka.
Thatīs my opinion... but Iīm just a Kraut.

Mike, I would agree with you. The present King has been a powerful force for good and moderation in Thailand. He is deservedly loved and revered.

Many Thais worry deeply about what will happen when he does indeed pass-away. I think that Georgia or Sri Lanka are too extreme - but there will be a period of disorientation - depending upon the secession.

I guess the present period of time with all the political instability in Thailand would be a bad time for The Kingīs passing away.
Thatīs why I wish him a long life.
I mentioned the other two countries, because I read about the problems in the south of Thailand.
Sri Lanka comes to mind whenever I think about minorities in a South East Asian country... this is caused by my friendship with some Tamil refugees here in Germany.
I remember what my friend SamSongTom ( ...you made acquaintance with him when we were at AJs in April ) once said:
"I wouldnīt cancel my booking, even I watched the news and saw violent demonstrators in Bangkok. I wouldnīt travel home immediately after I had seen tanks rolling down Beach Road... But I would realise that it is time to go home, in the moment they begin to remove the pictures of The King and Lord Buddha in the bars !"
Well, that gave me something to think about...

I hate to say this... But after reading some online news about the present situation in Bangkok, I canīt get rid of the feeling that there is the smell of civil war in the air of Thailand.
Letīs hope that the Land Of Smiles is really that different from other SE Asian countries, like the Thais proudly use to say about their homeland.
Otherwise they will have a civil war overthere soon !

Please, tell me that Iīm wrong !!!
