bar closing timesHi Peter ,
I have read info on various websites stating that Pattaya has to toe the line regarding the new 02.00 am closing times to make sure that everyone gets a good nights sleep to prepare them for the rigours of a new day .
I have heard that Pattaya is trying to get special dispensation with central government , claiming that Pattaya is a tourist resort so it should close down well after 02.00 am ( if at all ) . Has the governor of chonburi managed to get any concessions for this ??? .........or should I still be prepared for an early night . Whilst I have been in Thailand I have been told by ex pats etc etc that Thailand is getting more expensive ......... is`nt there also a risk that fun loving guys will take there cash to Cambodia , vietnam or even the Phillipines .

About 3-4 weeks ago there was a clampdown - everyone had to close at 2am (even us). There was a new Police Chief (yes, senior police officers are political appointees in Thailand) and there was a national effort to get back the control lost over the previous 18 months.
They held it for around 2 weeks and then allowed the big players to partly revert back to long hours (but of course at higher fees). But the normal bars and many Go-Gos are I think still at 2am. We are back to 3am (and still serving until you go home). Places like Marine and Casino are now 3am (with Marine 2 until 5am). Insomnia seems to be back to 6-7am - but not sure (I can't handle any later than 5am nowadays)
So , in summary, we are back to the status quo of 2-3 years ago.

closing time update ??Hi Peter ...... re: my previous correspondence , as anything changed regarding the tightening up of the closing times or is it still ongoing within the powers that be ?? .
