After reading the latest news from Pattaya in the web, I came to the point that I have just left Fun Town right on time before my holiday fun would get disturbed by street blockades, bar closures and noisy twats in silly red or yellow shirts !
Yup... that´s all I´m interested in when I think about LOS: holiday fun !
But there are still two questions:

First... this topic´s title: Do they really want us to spend our future holidays in LOS ?
They do everything to scare us Farangs away.
Not me, of course... but I will keep my eyes open... like I said here in past December during the airport blockades.
I know many people here who wouldn´t dare to travel to LOS... and today´s events will not make it any better.
The Thais don´t need to blame the noisy Farangs for disturbing law and order in LOS anymore, because those red/yellow hooligans can do so much better.

Second... Why do those fat, rich politicians needed to meet up in Fun Town for their silly conference on which they wanted to discuss the global financial crisis ?
It will not help the poor people on this planet anyway !
But I know the answer:
Because of a night out in Walking Street after a fat and expensive dinner in that god damn expensive hotel where they wanted to meet up for the conference.

Sub Question 2.1:
Do you think any of those politicians would have to pay a joiner´s fee for a girl in that hotel ?

I know I seem to say this all the time, but once again I was in no way inconvenienced by what happened on Friday and Saturday.

I did have to take a hell of a complex route to get to immigration on Friday - but there were no indications that a mini war was going on!

I spent Saturday afternoon being entertained and then sleeping it off. I then went to MacDonalds in the Avenue where I sat happily reading the paper only to be suddenly bombarded by calls asking whether central Pattaya was safe?

As is so often the case, life goes on and unless you wanted to get involved then there was no need to be.

Having said that, I am deeply saddened by the need to call off the conference, once again making Thailand lose face in the International Community.

I don't think I'm qualified to make an assessment of the rights and wrongs of all this - but I fear that Toxin's need to get his cash back has played a major part in this.

Do the Thai's want you to holiday in Thailand? Yes, very much so - but please also remember that this is still a very young democracy - and arguably one that has been held back by it's own culture and institutions. Explore European History 100-150 years ago. Every nation has to create a mature and robust system of governance.

I think we should grant the Thai's time to do that without us abandoning them.

Peter... I agree with you !
With starting this new thread here, I wanted to point on what the news medias here in Europe are talking about.
The informations we get here are strange and weird... not for me, of course, because I know LOS and I know that international medias use to exaggerate a story.
But I have spoken with many people here yesterday, who are planning a trip to LOS in the next few weeks.
Some of them have canceled their bookings already.
Those protesters and all Thai people should be aware of the fact that international news medias give wrong or exaggerated informations to people.
Of course, the media´s way of reporting is not the Thai people´s fault.
But they should have realised already that not so many Farangs come to LOS anymore like in the years before the political unrests began.
Hope they´ll sort their problems out soon... before it is too late.
There is still one factor that makes the Thai people standing together always.
I´m happy for this... But He will not live forever... and I wonder if LOS will be the same like before, after He has passed away.
